Prophets and Messengers in Islam: True Beliefs Every Muslim Must Know
Prophets and Messengers
Just as it is necessary to know about the Being and Attributes of Allah Almighty, it is also essential to know what characteristics a Prophet must possess and what is impossible for him—so that one may be protected from disbelief.
Meaning of "Rasool" (Messenger)
The word "Rasool" means the one who brings Allah’s message from Him to His servants.
Who is a Prophet?
A Prophet is a man who receives divine revelation (Wahi) to guide people towards the path of Allah. This message may be delivered through an angel or directly by divine inspiration. Many Prophets and many angels have been Messengers.
All Prophets were men — there has never been a Prophet from among the Jinn or women. One does not become a Prophet through worship or spiritual effort; Prophethood is purely a grace from Allah Almighty. However, Allah grants this honor only to the one who is born with all the qualities that befit a Prophet: staying away from evil and adopting goodness even before Prophethood.
A Prophet possesses nothing that people would find repulsive.
Character, Appearance, and Lineage of a Prophet
A Prophet's behavior, appearance, lineage, conduct, and speech are all noble and flawless. His intellect is perfect — no philosopher or sage can match even a fraction of the Prophet’s wisdom.
Anyone who believes that someone can become a Prophet through personal effort is a disbeliever. Likewise, believing that Prophethood can be taken away is also disbelief.
Who is Ma'soom (Infallible)?
Prophets and angels are infallible (Ma'soom) — they cannot commit sins. Believing that an Imam or a Wali (saint) is infallible is misguidance, even though great Imams and saints often do not commit sins. However, it is not impossible for them to err.
A Prophet cannot make a mistake in conveying the message of Allah — it is absolutely impossible.
On the Claim That Prophets Concealed Messages Due to Fear (Taqiyyah)
Whoever claims that some divine commands were not delivered by the Prophet out of fear or Taqiyyah is a disbeliever. All Prophets (peace be upon them) are superior to all of creation — even more than the angels who are Messengers.
The ruling on considering a saint superior to a prophet
No matter how spiritually elevated a saint is, he can never be equal to a Prophet. Anyone who considers a non-Prophet superior to a Prophet is a disbeliever.

Belief : The Greatness of the Prophet
Respecting the Prophet is an individual obligation (fard ‘ayn) and the foundation of all obligations. Even the slightest disrespect or denial of a Prophet is disbelief.
([2]) (References: Shifa, Hindiyyah, etc.)
All Prophets hold great status and honor with Allah.
To compare them — God forbid — to lowly castes is outright blasphemy and an act of disbelief.
The Life of Prophets After Death
The Prophets (peace be upon them) are alive in their graves just as they were in the world.
They experienced a moment of death only to fulfill the divine decree, and then they were returned to life.
Their life in the grave is greater than the life of martyrs.

Belief : The Knowledge of Prophets
Allah Almighty granted the Prophets (peace be upon them) the knowledge of the unseen.
Everything in the heavens and the earth is known to them by Allah's will.
This knowledge of the unseen is bestowed (Ataai) by Allah.
Since Allah’s knowledge is self-existent (Zaati) and not granted by anyone, there is no comparison.
Therefore, believing in the Prophets' bestowed unseen knowledge is not shirk, but a part of faith — as proven through numerous verses and Hadiths.

Belief : Superiority in Worship and Obedience
No follower (Ummah member) can surpass a Prophet in piety, worship, or obedience.
The Prophets are always engaged in the remembrance of Allah — whether awake or asleep.
Belief : Number of Prophets
It is impermissible to fix the number of Prophets.
Only Allah Almighty knows their exact number.
